Selsey has operated and crewed a Lifeboat Station for over 155 years!

When you visit Selsey Lifeboat Station, a member of the Visits Team will welcome you to the Experience Room on the first floor (a lift is available). Here you will be able to see the Shannon All Weather Lifeboat at close quarters and learn about the brave crews who have been saving lives in Selsey since 1861 and the wider work of the RNLI. Young people can enjoy watching videos of our lifeboats in action, learn about water safety and even dress up as a crew member!

The Lifeboat Station will be pleased to arrange a Group Visit for Schools, youth and adult organisations. If you would like to arrange a group visit, please cntact the Lifeboat Visits Officer, Colin Raycraft on 07956546542 or email colin.rycraft@outlook.com

The shop at the lifeboat station offers an exclusive range of RNLI merchandise which will which appeal to visitors of all ages.

The Visitor Centre and Lifeboat shop is open from 10.30am until 4:00pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

This year, 2024, the RNLI is celebrating 200 years of saving lives at sea and the RNLI Selsey team have planned a number of exciting events in this celebratory year. One definite date for the diary is the annual Lifeboat week which will be held from 8 July to 4 August. This will be a fun packed week of activities, including a firework display, funfair, quiz, musical and performing acts and other experiences for all the family. These events are generously supported by many Selsey businesses and residents.

Lifeboat Day on the final Sunday is especially popular with families, and this year will feature 'Lifeboat Village' on the green, locally produced artisan crafts, food and drink will be available together with live music from local bands and exciting water activities to include demonstrations by Selsey Lifeboats, the Coast Guard and visiting Lifeboat crews (weather and operational commitments permitting).
